BHEL recruitment 2026 is open for 660 Artisan Grade IV posts. Online applications started on 21 October 2026 at 10:00 AM. They close on 18 November 2026 at 11:45 PM. The computer based exam is tentatively set for 11 December 2026. BHEL says these dates are tentative and may change.
This drive is for ITI holders who also hold a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC). It is not a B.Tech, BCA or B.Sc job. A degree alone does not make you eligible. Every detail below comes from BHEL's own notice, Advt. 01/2026, which the company titles Artisan Recruitment 2027.

Trades and posts across nine units
Under BHEL recruitment 2026, nine BHEL manufacturing units are hiring. Each unit needs artisans in some of seven trades. Here are the total posts per trade, as printed in the notice.
- Fitter: 278 posts
- Welder: 104 posts
- Machinist: 101 posts
- Electrician: 90 posts
- Turner: 52 posts
- Electronics Mechanic: 23 posts
- Foundryman: 12 posts
That adds up to 660 posts.
Posts by unit:
- High Pressure Boiler Plant, Tiruchirappalli: 150
- Heavy Plates and Vessels Plant, Visakhapatnam: 120
- Boiler Auxiliaries Plant, Ranipet: 75
- Heavy Electrical Equipment Plant, Haridwar: 60
- Heavy Power Equipment Plant, Hyderabad: 60
- Heavy Electrical Plant, Bhopal: 60
- Transformer Plant, Jhansi: 60
- Electronics Division, Bengaluru: 45
- Solar Business Division, Bengaluru: 30
The notice calls these numbers tentative. Category-wise reservation follows government rules, and part of the posts are kept for dependents of deceased BHEL employees on compassionate grounds. You can apply for only one unit and one trade, because the exam for all of them is on the same day. If you submit more than one form, BHEL keeps only the last one.
Who is eligible: ITI, NAC, marks and age
To apply for BHEL recruitment 2026, you need three things, all in the same trade, issued on or before 1 October 2026:
- Class 10 pass.
- A National Trade Certificate (NTC), which is your ITI certificate.
- A National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC).
The marks rule applies to both ITI and NAC. General and OBC candidates need at least 60%. SC and ST candidates need at least 55%. Only full-time regular courses count. Knowing the local language helps: the regional language for the units in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, and Hindi for the others.
The upper age limit is 27 years for General and EWS candidates, as on 1 October 2026. Relaxations on top of that:
- SC and ST: 5 years.
- OBC (non-creamy layer): 3 years.
- Persons with disabilities: 10 years (General), 13 years (OBC) or 15 years (SC and ST).
- Candidates domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir from 1980 to 1989: 5 years.
- Work experience: up to 7 years, if you have at least 6 months of relevant experience in BHEL's format.
Even with every relaxation, you cannot be older than 56 on 1 October 2026. People already working at BHEL as temporary staff, or on probation, cannot apply.
Pay in the first year and after
Candidates selected through BHEL recruitment 2026 first work as Temporary Artisans for one year. During that year the pay is a consolidated Rs 24,000 a month. After the year is completed, BHEL regularises them as Artisan Grade IV at the start of the Rs 29,500 to Rs 65,000 scale, with the allowances in force at that time.
BHEL also gives preference to Best Apprentice and Runner-Up Apprentice winners of the all-India skill competition run by the Directorate General of Employment and Training. A Best Apprentice who is selected joins with 2 extra increments. These candidates still sit the exam and the skill test, and must upload their Certificate of Merit.
How BHEL selects: CBT, then skill test
BHEL recruitment 2026 has two stages, and you must clear both to reach the merit list.
- Computer based exam (CBE) in your trade. The minimum qualifying mark is 40% for UR and EWS, and 30% for OBC, SC and ST. Persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen get relaxation down to 30% and 22.5%. You can take the exam in Hindi, English, Kannada, Telugu or Tamil.
- Shortlisting. BHEL calls candidates for the skill test in a ratio of 1:3 to the vacancies in each trade and category. Where a trade has a single vacancy, up to 5 candidates are called.
- Document verification and skill test. BHEL checks your certificates first. The skill test that follows is qualifying only, and you can speak to the panel in Hindi, English or your regional language.
- Merit list. The final order is based on your CBE score. A medical examination by BHEL's doctor comes before joining.
Since the merit list is built on CBE marks, the written exam decides your rank. Revise the trade theory, workshop calculations and safety rules from your ITI syllabus, and practise reading engineering drawings for your trade. For the skill test, practise the hands-on jobs you did during your apprenticeship until you can do them quickly and accurately.
Fee and application rules
You can apply for BHEL recruitment 2026 only online at careers.bhel.in. The fee is non-refundable:
- UR, EWS and OBC: Rs 600 exam fee plus Rs 400 processing fee plus GST, a total of Rs 1,072.
- SC, ST, persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen: no exam fee, only the processing fee, a total of Rs 472.
Your bank may add its own charges. Before you pay, check these points from the notice:
- Enter your name exactly as it appears on your Class 10 certificate.
- Your address, email, category and post cannot be changed after you submit.
- Use an email ID you will keep active for at least a year, because BHEL sends every update by email.
- You can choose up to 5 test centres. BHEL can add or drop centres.
- OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates need a caste certificate issued on or after 1 January 2026. EWS candidates need an income and asset certificate valid for 2026-27.
- If you work in a government job or a PSU, apply through proper channel or bring a no objection certificate.
The 20-year posting rule and other conditions
Read this before you choose a unit. Selected artisans must serve at their allocated unit for at least 20 years from joining. BHEL will not accept transfer requests in that time. If you later ask to move for personal reasons, BHEL will consider it only if a post is free, and only by moving you back to your original post.
BHEL can cancel, limit, enlarge or reopen this recruitment without notice. Your candidature stays provisional at every stage, even after you receive a roll number or a skill test call letter. Persons with disabilities are eligible in the categories the notice lists, which do not include blindness.
The fee above is the only payment in this process, and it is paid only on careers.bhel.in. Nobody can sell you a BHEL seat, and no agent can speed up your result.
