Registration for TCS Smart Hiring 2027 is open, and the window closes on Friday, 9 October 2026. The drive covers the batch of 2027 and runs together with TCS BSc Ignite. One exam sits behind both programs. Science stream students apply on the TCS NextStep portal, sit a 120 minute test at a centre, and their performance decides which of the two roads opens.
This page covers who can register, what the paper holds, how Smart differs from Ignite, and the exact steps on NextStep.
Who can register for TCS Smart Hiring 2027
TCS lists the criteria on its careers page. Check every line against your own marksheets before you start the form.
- Full time graduates from BCA, BSc or BVoc (CS/IT), batch of 2027.
- For BSc, the streams named are IT, Computer Science, Math, Data Science, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Cyber Security and Biochemistry.
- A minimum aggregate of 50 percent, or the equivalent CGPA, in Class 10, Class 12, diploma if applicable, and graduation. The aggregate counts all subjects across all semesters.
- At most one active backlog when you appear for the selection process. The course itself must finish on time, with nothing pending at joining.
- An overall academic gap of no more than 24 months, declared in the application form with document proof.
- Age between 18 and 28 years.
Only full time courses count here. Part time and correspondence degrees are ruled out. Students who cleared Class 10 or Class 12 through NIOS stay eligible when the later courses are full time. More openings for this stream sit on the BCA and BSc jobs page.
The paper: 120 minutes, four sections
TCS iON runs the test, and it happens in person at a test centre. The assessment lasts 120 minutes and carries four sections.
- Numerical Ability
- Verbal Ability
- Reasoning Ability
- Coding, which is optional
Think hard about that last line. TCS says students who excel in the selection process gain access to Ignite. Coding is the only optional section, so skipping it weakens an Ignite case from the start. A sample question paper sits on the TCS page as a PDF download. Solve it once before your slot.
Smart and Ignite: one exam, two roads
TCS Smart places hires in roles across functions such as Engineering, Quality Assurance and Data Analytics. The training blends technical skills, domain knowledge and soft skills. For these roles TCS asks for process orientation, clear written and spoken communication, collaboration and analytical thinking.
TCS Ignite is the Science to Software program. TCS describes it as an immersive training program that bridges academic knowledge and industry IT skills. Two lines from the page stand out.
- The career trajectory runs parallel to that of engineering professionals.
- The TCS Initial Learning Program counts 50 percent toward academic credit in curated postgraduate programs from Indian universities.
How to apply on the NextStep portal
The whole application runs on the TCS NextStep portal. Five steps, in order.
- Log on to TCS NextStep. A new user clicks Register Now and picks IT as the category.
- Fill your details exactly as they appear on your Aadhaar. TCS warns that incorrect details can disqualify a candidature.
- Submit the application form for BSc Ignite and Smart Hiring, batch of 2027, then click Apply for Drive.
- Select the test mode, which is in centre, and choose your preferred test centre. The centre cannot be changed once chosen.
- Open Track Your Application and confirm the status reads Applied for Drive.
TCS states that centre seats go on a first come, first served basis, and that a preferred city stops being selectable once its seats are full. The advice to register early comes from the company's own page, for that reason.
Dates, contacts and the fee line
Registration ends on 9 October 2026. TCS has not published a test date on the page yet. All test communication comes from TCS iON, the test provider.
Three warnings sit on the official page, and each one matters.
- TCS does not send hiring mail from Gmail, Yahoo, Rediff or Hotmail addresses.
- TCS never asks a candidate to deposit money for a job offer.
- No outside agency conducts interviews or makes offers on TCS's behalf.
Classic Jobs charges nothing either. For help, TCS lists ilp.support@tcs.com and the toll free number 1800 209 3111. Salary for these roles is not disclosed on the drive page. The figure in your offer letter is the only one that counts.
